Sleepstation

Patients can access Sleepstation, an NHS-funded online sleep support service, via a secure digital gateway.

There is no waiting list.

To use the service, you will need regular internet access and be able to use a computer, tablet or smartphone. If needed, a carer or family member can help you.

Sleepstation provides clinically validated screening and support for people experiencing sleep problems, including insomnia. Support is delivered through an online Sleepstation Hub.

Good sleep is important for both physical health and emotional wellbeing. Sleepstation focuses on improving sleep without medication. If you have been using sleep medication for a long time, the programme can also support you to gradually reduce reliance on sedative medicines, where appropriate.

Once registered, you will have immediate access to:

  • Sleep information and education
  • Online screening questionnaires
  • Self-help tools and resources
  • Non-clinical support through a confidential messaging service

For some patients, screening may indicate that a structured online programme of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTI) could be suitable. If so, the Sleepstation onboarding team will collect the minimum information needed to confirm NHS eligibility. This includes your name, date of birth, GP practice and NHS number.

CBTI requires motivation and regular engagement to be effective. Sleepstation combines digital tools with personalised human support and input from a multidisciplinary team to help patients achieve good outcomes.

Once eligibility is confirmed, you will be informed that CBTI is available. The onboarding team will then contact you using your preferred method (telephone, text or email) to help you get started.

Who the service may not be suitable for

The Sleepstation Hub is suitable for most adults. However, the structured CBTI programme is not appropriate for everyone.

You should not use Sleepstation if you have any of the following:

  • Epilepsy or a history of seizures
  • Bipolar disorder or a previous manic episode
  • Schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or a previous psychotic episode
  • A high risk of falls
  • Current detoxification from drugs or alcohol

If you are unsure whether the service is suitable for you, please contact your GP practice before completing a self-referral. Your GP can advise you and, if appropriate, make a referral on your behalf.

You can self-refer to the NHS service by calling 0333 800 9404 or visiting their website
